Partnering With Parents: Literacy Activities and Resources
At the International School of Morocco we just finished our Literacy Week with fun activities such as a Book Trivia relay race, a mini-book fair and Dress as Your Favourite Storybook Character Day. The emphasis of any Literacy Week is to get students excited about reading and to help parents get books in students' hands. Also it is to remind parents that children should be reading, or read to in any language, often to improve their literacy skills. This article below talks about how parents can partner with schools to improve their child's literacy skills but more importantly what parents need to know about literacy and how they can create an environment for reading at home. We use articles like these at our Parent Workshops to give provide strategies that help parents be partners in their child's education.
